Jenn Nicolson-Church
Voice, Harp & Beginner Piano
Miss Jenn has been singing and performing music since she was three years old. Miss Jenn was given early admittance into the Douglas College Children’s Choir by Choral Director Diane Loomer. She has performed and studied under a variety of musicians – including: Stephen Horning, Marissa Gitan and Lindsay Lindquest. Miss Jenn added the Oboe and Bassoon to her musical skills as a teen, performing in both large and small ensembles. As a vocal student at Kwantlen University College, Miss Jenn found Music History especially helpful in her studies of Celtic and Gaelic music. It was through her Celtic studies that she was introduced to the “Clarsach” (small scottish Harp) which became the perfect accompaniment for her voice. Under the instruction and mentorship of Rebecca Blair and Alys Howe, as well as various workshops with Harper Tasche and Seamas Gagne a whole new world of harp and voice was realized. Miss Jenn has studied Gaelic music and culture in Scotland and the Isle of Skye as well as studying the history of the music in the Hebridean Islands. Miss Jenn was a winner of the Northwest Region Scottish harping Competition in Skagit Valley, Washington. Miss Jenn has over 20 years of teaching experience and has been teaching here at Mission Music Lessons since we opened in 2012. She teaches a wide range of styles including Classical, Jazz, Improvisation, Musical Theatre, Rock, Pop & Heavy Metal. She also teaches our very popular Jr. Glee & Sr. Glee Classes. Piano Lessons? Miss Jenn takes beginner piano students teaching the Alfred’s Premier Piano Course (she is very thorough and makes sure her students learn the perfect combination of piano skills, theory and performance pieces) she generally takes beginner piano students for about 3 years and gets them ready to move perfectly into the RCM program with Miss Sarah or Miss Serena once they have already done about 3 years of lessons with her. Miss Jenn takes students ages 7+ including adults. Does your child like to perform? Then she just may be the perfect fit for you! Miss Jenn highly encourages (but never requires) all her students to perform at all our student recitals as well as many other public events.
